Meteorology systems

EMAS Automatic Weather Stations

The weather systems are stations designed to regularly measure and record various meteorological variables. These data are used both for the elaboration of weather forecasts based on numerical models as well as for climate studies.

Common instruments and variables measured at a weather station include:

  • Thermometer: temperature meter at different times of the day.
  • Subsoil thermometers (geothermometers): temperature meter at 5, 10, 20, 50 and 100 cm depth.
  • Minimum floor thermometer: measures the minimum temperature at a distance of 15 cm above the floor.
  • Thermograph: automatically records temperature fluctuations.
  • Barometer is responsible for measuring the atmospheric pressure at the surface.
  • Pluviometer: measures the amount of water falling on the ground in the form of rain, snow or hail.
  • Psychrometer or hygrometer: measures the relative humidity of the air and the dew point temperature.
  • Pyranometer: measurement of global solar radiation (direct + diffuse).
  • Heliograph: measurement of sunlight hours.
  • Anemometer: wind speed measurement.
  • Vane: indicates wind direction.
  • Nephobasimeter: measures the height of the clouds, but only at the point where it is placed.

Ceilometers, RVR, Wind Profiling Radar

Radiocom S.A.S. has been installing RVR equipment for more than 10 years.

RVR is a landing instrument that provides information on runway visibility conditions to pilots, air traffic services (ATS) units and other aeronautical users during periods of low visibility.

The RVR assessment provides a meteorology system that not only starts from the observation of meteorological parameters, but also has detailed information and guidance on the subject.

Runway lights are an element to be considered for this technique, as these visual aids can considerably improve visibility in times of visibility restriction.
