Meteorology systems

EMAS Automatic Weather Stations

A weather station is a facility intended to regularly measure and record various meteorological variables. These data are used both for the preparation of weather predictions from numerical models as well as for climate studies.

Common instruments and variables measured at a weather station include:

  • Thermometer, measurement of temperatures, at various times of the day.
  • Subsoil thermometers (thermometers), to measure temperature at 5, 10, 20, 50 and 100 cm depth.
  • Minimum thermometer next to the ground, measures the minimum temperature at a distance of 15 cm above the ground.
  • Thermograph, automatically records temperature fluctuations.
  • Barometer, measurement of atmospheric pressure on the surface.
  • Rain gauge, measurement of the amount of water falling on the ground in the form of rain, snow or hail.
  • Psychrometer or hygrometer, measurement of relative air humidity and dew point temperature.
  • Pyranometer, measurement of global solar radiation (direct + diffuse).
  • Heliograph, measurement of hours of sunlight.
  • Anemometer, measurement of wind speed.
  • Weather vane, which indicates the direction of the wind.
  • Nephobasimeter, measurement of the height of the clouds, but only at the point where it is placed.

Ceilometers, RVR, Wind Profiling Radar

Radiocom S.A.S has installed RVR equipment for more than 10 years and we work with the support of the French company Degreane Horizon.

The RVR is a landing instrument that provides information on runway visibility conditions to pilots, air traffic services (ATS) units and other aeronautical users during periods of low visibility.

The evaluation of RVR is much more complex than the mere observation of meteorological parameters and for this reason, it is necessary to have detailed information and guidance on the subject. Runway lights are an ingredient to consider for this technique, since these visual aids allow visibility to be considerably improved in times of restriction (e.g. fog, fog, rain, snow or mist).
